Caring for ESRD dog patient Arya

Caring for Arya in her last stages has been quite a challenge. She is a white boxer who was rescued 2 years back with a severe maggot wound. We cured her of the maggot wound but soon found out that she has chronic Kidney disease. She found an adopter in Bangalore a good doctor along with the rest of her dog siblings. She lived happily for 10 months. And then her kidneys began crashing like crazy.
There was not much to think or say, bringing her back to Mumbai was priority as long as she could travel and make the journey of 18 hours.

When we began traveling, she seemed comfortable. As time passed, she seemed to get very uncomfortable. She wanted to lie only in a particular position probably where her head felt more comfortable. It was cold outside which really helped the journey. In the middle I felt that she would collapse. But strong Arya didn't.
We reached Thane at around 4 pm. As soon as she entered the hospital, she had some Calibra Food and drank water. That was quite a relief.
She had a small appetite the next day as well and then she stopped eating.

Her blood tests came back with an 8.2 createnin and high BUN. She was already uremic as the smell was very severe from the beginning. Anyhow we started fluids for her. And now it's been 5 days, the poor girl has not eaten a thing.

She vomits 8-10 times in the night. She is restless throughout the night. She wants to go for a walk at 4.30 am. The poor girl is in a lot of distress.

I continue to believe that she will get through this as she is not just any dog. She is Arya. She is strong and she will pull through this.
